About

Trudon has been making candles since 1643. Let that sink in for a moment. When you step into the Rive Gauche boutique, you are browsing the products of a company that supplied wax to the court of Louis XIV and later illuminated churches, palaces and salons across France. Few luxury brands can claim a history that stretches across monarchies, revolutions and republics while still producing the very thing that made them famous. The shop itself reflects that heritage without turning into a museum. Dark wood, polished glass and carefully arranged displays create the feeling of entering a Parisian cabinet of curiosities dedicated entirely to fragrance. Every candle jar feels substantial in the hand, every scent comes with its own personality. Ernesto evokes a Havana smoking room with leather and rum. Abd El Kader captures fresh mint tea and spices. Joséphine was inspired by Napoleon’s empress and her passion for roses. What makes a visit worthwhile is that this is one of the rare places where luxury still revolves around craftsmanship rather than logos. Trudon manufactures its candles in Normandy, using techniques refined over centuries. The green glass vessels, inspired by champagne buckets from the eighteenth century, have become design objects in their own right. Do not come expecting a vast department store experience. The boutique is intimate and highly focused. You are here for fragrance, beautiful objects and stories. Even if you leave empty handed, there is something oddly satisfying about spending half an hour discussing wax, perfume and French history with people who genuinely care about all three.
