Le Sirenuse
Via Cristoforo Colombo, 30, 84017 Positano SA, Italy — Positano — Italy
About
High above the vertiginous lanes of Positano, Hotel Le Sirenuse feels both patrician and quietly playful. The building began life as the summer residence of the Neapolitan Sersale family, who in 1951 decided to open their doors to a handful of curious travellers. Much of that domestic spirit endures. Vaulted rooms filled with antique furniture and crisp white linens overlook a sweep of sea that never quite becomes ordinary, even after several days of admiring it. Scale is part of the charm. With just a few dozen rooms, the hotel moves at a human rhythm, from slow breakfasts on tiled terraces to aperitivo at Franco’s Bar, where design wit meets cinematic sunsets. Dinner at La Sponda, illuminated by hundreds of candles, reminds guests that Campanian cuisine can be both refined and deeply rooted in local tradition. Over the decades, artists, writers and discreet celebrities have drifted through, drawn less by spectacle than by atmosphere. Le Sirenuse respects its history without becoming a museum. One checks in for the view and the reputation, then stays for the feeling of being momentarily at home in an improbable place.
