About

Just behind Copenhagen’s royal quarter, Hotel Petra occupies a former mid century office building that quietly reflects the city’s design evolution. The structure dates from the 1940s, with clean functionalist lines that feel unmistakably Danish: restrained, rational, and almost modest from the outside. Step inside and the atmosphere shifts. Interiors lean into warm minimalism, with oak, stone and soft textiles creating a calm, almost residential mood that feels closer to a well kept private apartment than a hotel. The location is one of Petra’s strongest assets. Within a few minutes you reach Kongens Nytorv, Nyhavn and the Designmuseum, yet the street itself remains calm and removed from the city’s busier flow. It tends to attract architects, gallery visitors and travellers who appreciate quiet precision over spectacle. Breakfast follows the same philosophy. Expect carefully sourced Scandinavian produce, excellent bread and a focus on quality rather than display. There is no grand restaurant to anchor the hotel, and that feels intentional. Petra is designed as a place to withdraw, not to perform. There is little overt luxury here. Rooms are compact, details are exact, and the experience relies on coherence rather than impact. It rewards those who notice proportion, light and material. In that sense, it mirrors Copenhagen itself.
