Acropolis
Rising above Athens on a limestone hill, the Acropolis commands both skyline and imagination. Its crown jewel, the Parthenon, was built between 447 and 432 BC under Pericles, its marble columns subtly curved to outwit the eye and suggest perfect harmony. Temples to Athena Nike and the Erechtheion with its poised Caryatids complete the ensemble. Scarred by war and time, restored with care, it remains a lucid testament to classical ambition and the stubborn endurance of beauty.
