Bottiglieria Bulloni
Via Lipari, 2, 20123 Milano MI, Italy — Milano — Italy
About
Bottiglieria Bulloni feels like the sort of Milan address that makes trend hunting look a little amateur. Open since 1933 on Via Lipari, it belongs to that rarer species of place where history sits in plain view: vintage signage outside, dark wood inside, and behind the counter a striking ceramic work by Futurist artist Enrico Prampolini, who also designed the lamps. Even Condé Nast has singled it out as a small modernist landmark, which is a splendid qualification for somewhere you can also drink very well. The focus is wine, unapologetically so. Bulloni carries around 1,500 labels and pours more than 20 wines by the glass, with the selection refreshed weekly, which gives regulars a reason to behave like collectors. Food plays the supporting role with intelligence: aperitivo staples and simple dishes designed to flatter the glass in your hand rather than steal the conversation. I could not verify a current chef figure attached to the house, and that somehow suits the place perfectly. Bulloni is about cellar culture, Milanese ritual, and the pleasure of lingering in a room that has kept its character while half the city has been busy reinventing itself.
