Founded in 2008 by Dasha Zhukova, the institution moved in 2015 into a remarkable relic of Soviet modernism, the former Vremena Goda restaurant. Architect Rem Koolhaas chose not to erase history but to frame it. Original ceramic tiles, fading mosaics and traces of canteen life remain visible behind sleek glass walls and translucent panels. The effect feels both archaeological and boldly contemporary. Inside, large galleries host ambitious exhibitions by Russian and international artists, often experimental, sometimes playful, always thought provoking.
