At 87 McAllister Street, Arsicault brings rare discipline to the simple pleasure of pastry. Owner and baker Armando Lacayo left a finance career, built the bakery around family roots that trace back to an Arsicault boulangerie near Paris, and turned his croissants into one of San Francisco’s most discussed breakfast objects. Bon Appétit named the original bakery America’s best new bakery in 2016, largely on the strength of those deeply golden, intensely flaky croissants and the equally coveted kouign amann.
