Sky Lagoon has the good sense to sit just outside central Reykjavík, at Kársnes Harbour in Kópavogur, where the Atlantic does much of the scene setting for free. Opened in 2021, it feels strikingly contemporary, yet its design borrows from old Icelandic building traditions, especially the turf house, so the architecture never slips into spa cliché. The mood is calm, grown up and beautifully controlled: warm geothermal water at the edge of the sea, a long infinity line, dark lava tones, and a ritual that draws on Icelandic bathing culture rather than generic wellness jargon. What makes it memorable is not extravagance but precision. Everything, from the setting to the materials to the sequence of heat, cold and steam, is tuned to make Iceland feel tangible rather than staged.
