Cantina Terlano tops the producer rankings with 19 top scores in the Italian guides, Suedtirol Wein and its 2021 Terlano Primo Grande Cuvée received a perfect 100 points from Falstaff and was named Best White Wine. Suedtirol Wein Their Pinot Bianco Rarity, aged for over a decade on the lees, is considered one of Italy's greatest white wines. A cooperative, but one that behaves like a grand estate. Sebastian Stocker, Terlano's winemaker from 1955 to 1993, selected exceptional wines from old vines and set them aside for extended ageing on the lees, entirely of his own accord, in secret, and without any authority to do so. He also hid large numbers of bottles to create a fabulous archive of older vintages extending all the way back to 1893, with large quantities back to 1955. World Of Fine Wine He was a cooperative employee acting on pure instinct and conviction, against the grain of an industry focused on quick turnover. That act of personal rebellion is now the winery's greatest asset. Cantina Terlano has a unique wine archive housing some 100,000 bottles covering every vintage since 1955, as well as some earlier ones. Suedtiroler-weinstrasse The "Rarity" wines produced using his method are aged in pressurised steel tanks for between ten and thirty years before release. Only when the winemaker believes the wine is ready to be enjoyed at its fullest is it released.
