About

On Crosby Street in SoHo, where cobblestones still recall the mercantile New York of the nineteenth century, the Crosby Street Hotel rises with unusual confidence. Completed in 2009, the eleven story building by the New York firm Stonehill Taylor stands apart in a district largely defined by cast iron lofts. Its red brick façade and vast steel framed windows quietly echo that industrial heritage while announcing something distinctly contemporary. In a neighborhood where new construction is rare and fiercely debated, the hotel slipped in with remarkable grace. Inside, designer Kit Kemp abandoned the predictable language of luxury. Public rooms burst with color, art, and eccentric detail, yet the effect never feels theatrical. Sunlight pours through windows from floor to ceiling, illuminating spaces that feel both cosmopolitan and deeply personal. A small sculpture garden introduces a note of calm, while the private screening room has turned the hotel into a discreet address for the film world, especially during the nearby Tribeca Film Festival. Actors, directors, and producers drift through the lobby each spring. The mood, however, remains pleasantly unstarstruck. SoHo still belongs to the street outside.
