About

At Vermelho Hotel Melides, Christian Louboutin, the designer behind the iconic red soled shoes, has built something closer to a personal statement than a hotel. He had been coming to Melides for years, drawn by its quiet rhythm, its distance from the polished circuits of Comporta, and a landscape that still feels anchored in daily life. Vermelho is his way of contributing to the village, though entirely on his own terms. The building is new, yet deliberately rooted in local tradition. From the outside it follows the language of Alentejo architecture. Step inside and the tone shifts. Deep reds, hand painted tiles, carved wood and layered ornament reflect Louboutin’s visual universe. The result is unapologetically maximalist. Each of the 13 rooms is different, assembled with objects and craftsmanship rather than styled uniformity. That contrast defines the stay. Outside, cork trees, long beaches and a village that moves without urgency. Inside, a world shaped by a single creative voice. It will not suit everyone. The aesthetic is strong and ever present. The hotel keeps its offering focused. A small spa, nothing expansive. The real centre of gravity is Xtian, led by chef Emanuel Machado, where Portuguese cuisine is handled with precision and a welcome sense of restraint.
