Tutka Bay Lodge
SE coast across Kachemak Bay, Homer, AK 99603, USA — Homer — United States
About
Across the water from the fishing town of Homer, Tutka Bay Lodge stands on a quiet stretch of old growth forest where the mountains fall sharply into the cold blue of Kachemak Bay. Built from heavy timber and wide panes of glass, the lodge rises above the tide line on stilts, its walkways threading through spruce and alder like a small coastal village. The place grew from the vision of Carl and Kirsten Dixon in the early 1990s, when this remote inlet was still largely the domain of fishermen and brown bears. Inside, cedar walls carry the scent of the forest and windows frame passing whales and drifting fog. Evenings gather around long tables and soft firelight, where Alaska reveals itself not as spectacle but as quiet grandeur.
