About

At the far end of Marseille, beyond the city, beyond the beaches and almost beyond reason, a former diving club clings to the rocks of Les Goudes. Below, swimmers climb in and out of the Mediterranean. Ahead, the limestone coastline of the Calanques stretches into the distance. Inside, a handful of rooms overlook the sea through enormous windows that make curtains feel almost unnecessary. Tuba could have become another polished design hotel. Instead, it remained surprisingly faithful to its origins. Pale blue tiled bathrooms, simple materials, woven flooring and carefully chosen vintage pieces create an atmosphere that feels relaxed rather than staged. Nothing shouts for attention. The sea handles that job perfectly well. Most guests arrive for a night and end up structuring their day around lunch. The restaurant has become one of the most sought after tables in Marseille, and for good reason. A whole grilled fish arrives on a metal platter with little more than lemon and confidence. Crudo, shellfish and seasonal vegetables are prepared with precision, though never with unnecessary flourish. The cooking feels deeply Mediterranean: sophisticated enough to justify the journey, simple enough to remind you that the ingredients are the real stars. Guests looking for impeccable formal service, cavernous suites and endless facilities may leave slightly puzzled. Those who love architecture, the sea, exceptional seafood and places with genuine character will understand immediately.
