About
On a lonely stretch of the Sonoma Coast, Timber Cove Resort carries the quiet confidence of a 1960s architectural experiment that aged remarkably well. The building, designed in 1963 by Bay Area modernist William Turnbull Jr, stretches low along the cliffs in redwood and glass, a study in coastal modernism long before the Sea Ranch vocabulary became famous. Fog drifts through the courtyards, fireplaces glow, and the Pacific does most of the talking. Outside stands Beniamino Bufano’s towering sculpture Peace, a stainless steel sentinel facing the ocean. For decades artists, writers, and city escapees have come here for the same reason: raw landscape, thoughtful design, and the rare luxury of silence.
