About

On a prominent corner beside Civic Center Park in Denver, the Populus Hotel rises like a curious new species in the city skyline. Designed by architect Jeanne Gang and her Studio Gang team, the building draws its form from the pale trunks of Colorado aspen trees. The facade is punctured by oval windows that echo the dark “eyes” left on aspen bark where branches once grew. In daylight the pattern gives the tower a quiet rhythm. At night the windows glow like a constellation. Inside, the mood is warm and tactile. Timber, stone, and soft light create the sense of a modern mountain lodge translated into an urban setting. The lobby hums with visitors drifting in from nearby museums, the State Capitol, and long walks through Civic Center Park. Upper floors frame wide views of the Front Range, a reminder that wilderness sits just beyond the city grid. Populus arrived in 2024 with a bold ambition to become the nation’s first carbon positive hotel.
