About

Park Hotel Kenmare has been welcoming travellers since 1897, when visitors arrived in County Kerry by train in search of fresh air, dramatic scenery and a break from city life. More than a century later, the hotel still feels shaped by that era. Not because it has remained frozen in time, but because it has resisted the temptation to reinvent itself every few years. The hotel stands on the edge of Kenmare, a colourful market town founded in the seventeenth century as one of Ireland’s earliest planned settlements. From the front door, it takes only a few minutes to reach independent bookshops, traditional pubs and cafés. Equally close are the roads that lead into the Ring of Kerry and the Beara Peninsula, two of Ireland’s most rewarding landscapes. The building itself is substantial rather than showy. Long lawns stretch towards the bay and the grey stone façade feels entirely at home in this corner of southwest Ireland. Inside, the atmosphere changes. Marble fireplaces, contemporary Irish art and generously proportioned lounges create spaces where guests naturally linger. Newspapers are spread across coffee tables, tea arrives without ceremony and conversations seem to continue for hours. Recent renovations by Irish designer Bryan O’Sullivan have introduced a lighter touch to the interiors while preserving the hotel’s character. Dinner follows the same philosophy as the rest of the hotel. The focus is on excellent Irish ingredients rather than culinary theatre. Local seafood, seasonal produce and Kerry lamb take centre stage, served with confidence and restraint.
