Osteria Al Coniglio Bianco
Alzaia Naviglio Grande, 12, 20144 Milano MI, Italy
About
On the Naviglio Grande, Osteria Al Coniglio Bianco offers the sort of Milan meal that quietly restores one’s faith in the city’s dining scene. The house has been here since 2008 and draws its name from the sign of an 1879 inn discovered by owner Giampiero Linguanti, a detail so charming it sounds invented, which fortunately it is not. Today the restaurant remains a family affair, run by Giampiero and his daughter Giorgia. The kitchen is now led by chef Luis Novoa, whose cooking leans into Milanese tradition while allowing room for influences from across Italy. That means you come for the classics, and quite right too: risotto alla milanese, ossobuco, cotoletta in elephant ear style, mondeghili, and a menu that shifts with the seasons rather than behaving like a museum label. Inside, the appeal is immediate. White painted wooden ceilings, antique furniture, mismatched tables, shelves lined with wine and products for sale, old photos of historic osterie, and a warm slightly theatrical intimacy give the place character without any designer smugness. The location helps too: number 12 on Alzaia Naviglio Grande, a short walk from the Vicolo dei Lavandai, right in that stretch of Milan where old canal life still peeks through the aperitivo parade. Then there is the cellar, with more than 600 labels. In Milan, that counts as both hospitality and strategy.
