Maison Souquet
10 Rue de Bruxelles, 75009 Paris, France
About
In the discreet folds of Pigalle, where Paris still carries a trace of its more ambiguous past, Maison Souquet plays a clever double game. Behind a rather restrained façade lies a former maison close from the Belle Époque, reimagined with theatrical precision by designer Jacques Garcia. He resisted the temptation of minimalism entirely. Instead, rooms unfold in layers of velvet, silk, dark wood and mirrors, each space inspired by a historic courtesan, with a deliberate sense of intimacy that feels curated rather than nostalgic. The location, just steps from Montmartre yet removed from its postcard clichés, reinforces the appeal. You are close to the city’s creative pulse, though once inside, the outside world dissolves quickly. The salon, with its library and hushed lighting, functions as the social heart. There is no grand restaurant, which feels like a conscious choice rather than a limitation. Breakfast and light dining remain discreet, almost private, in line with the house’s character. What stands out is the commitment to atmosphere. This is not a place for clean lines or daylight flooding in. It is about controlled darkness, about texture, about slowing down. The spa, reserved privately, continues that narrative with almost ceremonial calm. Maison Souquet demands a certain mood from its guests. If you expect classic Parisian luxury, you may find it too stylised. If you appreciate storytelling through design and a strong sense of place, it becomes quietly addictive.
