About

On Avenida Yucatán, Maison Celeste occupies a townhouse that dates back to the early decades of the twentieth century, when Roma Norte was conceived as a refined extension of Mexico City for an emerging bourgeoisie inspired by European urban ideals. The proportions still reflect that ambition: high ceilings, generous windows, ornamental moldings, and stained glass that softens the strong Mexican light into something more measured. The hotel respects that framework without turning it into a museum piece. Instead of restoring a nostalgic residence, the ground floor has been reimagined as an active cultural platform. Rooms that once served domestic life now host exhibitions, pop ups, and events, giving the house a tempo that shifts with the city’s creative calendar. During Art Week, it becomes one of those addresses where you arrive for a drink and leave two hours later having seen half a dozen conversations unfold. Upstairs, the five rooms are deliberately composed. Each follows a single color identity, from cobalt blue to moss green, paired with vintage furniture and pieces crafted by local artisans. The effect is confident without excess. You feel the hand of a curator rather than a decorator. Some rooms favour social interaction, others offer the kind of quiet needed for longer stays, particularly the Alba suite with its sequence of interconnected spaces. The setting quietly adds another layer. A few doors down, at number 84, Expendio de Maíz has earned a Michelin star for its instinctive, ingredient driven approach to Mexican cuisine. It reinforces the idea that this stretch of Avenida Yucatán is less about passing through and more about settling in for a few days.
