Laucala Island
Laucala Island, Fiji — Fiji
About
On the far northern edge of Fiji, where the Pacific feels endless and time acquires a different rhythm, COMO Laucala Island presents a rare vision of contemporary tropical architecture rooted in place. The resort occupies a privately owned island once developed by publishing magnate Malcolm Forbes and later reimagined by Austrian entrepreneur Dietrich Mateschitz. Villas are sculpted from timber, stone and thatch, rising discreetly from coconut groves or perched above volcanic cliffs, their scale generous yet intentionally unobtrusive. Life here unfolds between jungle, lagoon and farm. The estate is largely self sustaining, producing its own Wagyu beef, tropical fruit and seafood that appear on plates shaped by COMO’s wellness driven cuisine. Interiors favour warm restraint over spectacle, with wide terraces inviting long afternoons that drift into candlelit dinners by the water. Helicopter arrival sets the tone. Privacy is not marketed, it is simply assumed. The result feels less like a hotel stay and more like temporary ownership of an extraordinary landscape.
