If hotels could tell stories over breakfast, this one would. Then there are the Lake View Villas, the modern counterpart. Cleaner lines, more privacy, more space, sharper lake views, and the sort of calm contemporary comfort that makes unpacking feel efficient. They are beautiful, though a touch less romantic in spirit. The setting does heavy lifting. Villa La Angostura lies in Argentina’s oldest national park, surrounded by forests, peaks and cold blue water. The town takes its name from the narrow channel linking two lakes. Nearby, the tiny Correntoso River is often called one of the shortest rivers on earth. The main lake even has its own creature legend: Nahuelito, a local monster said to patrol the depths. Luxury with mythology is always welcome. Cuisine remains one of the pleasures here, with trout, lamb, berries and strong Argentine wines handled with polish rather than theatre. Honest advice? First stay: choose the Blue House. It has more soul, more continuity, more reason to remember the address years later. Choose the villas if privacy and contemporary ease outrank atmosphere.
