About
Holm makes a strong case for taking South Petherton seriously as a food destination. The dining room sits inside a handsome former bank building from 1830, later a NatWest branch until its closure in 2015, and it wears that history well: calm proportions, pale surfaces, warm timber, and an open kitchen that turns dinner into a gentle spectator sport. Chef director Nicholas Balfe cooks Modern British food driven by local, seasonal produce, with details that feel quietly obsessive rather than showy. Trout gets smoked in house over local applewood, herbs and fruit come from the garden, and if you book the counter you can watch the team work with the focus of a well run studio. Upstairs, Holm also has seven bedrooms on a bed and breakfast basis. They are smart, comfortable, and thoughtfully finished, ideal for a practical overnight crash when you want to stay close to the table. As a stay, they are pleasant rather than exceptional. The real reason to come remains downstairs.
