Grand Hotel Kronenhof Pontresina

Location & practical

Belle Époque grandeur, with the Engadin at the windows

  • Breakfast beneath a painted ceiling.
  • A mountain-facing pool and 2,000 m² spa.
  • Grand-hotel history with room for children.
  • €535–1,310 / night
  • 112 rooms
  • Pontresina village

The Kronenhof looks as though it has been waiting for your arrival since the age of steamer trunks. Its painted ceilings, elaborate plasterwork and pine-panelled rooms belong to Pontresina’s grand-hotel era, yet the 112-room property has kept up with the way people travel now. Pierre-Yves Rochon has refreshed parts of the interior; beyond the windows are the Val Roseg and, from the right rooms, mountains and glaciers.

Make time for the hotel itself. The Grand Restaurant serves breakfast and dinner under a neo-Baroque ceiling, while the wood-lined Kronenstübli is the place for a more intimate meal. An indoor pool faces the mountains, and the 2,000 m² spa adds saunas, steam rooms and treatments. Children get a proper water-play area and a supervised club for ages three and up. These are useful details if your idea of a mountain holiday involves a long hike one day and very little effort the next.

Room choice changes the view considerably: the Classic doubles look towards the village or courtyard, while the Double Deluxe and several junior suites face the mountains and glaciers. Pontresina has a station on the Rhaetian Railway, so a car is optional; ask the hotel about the final transfer before you travel. The hotel is open across the 2026–27 winter season and is currently advertising stays into spring 2027. Budget roughly €535–€1,310 per room per night as an indicative span from an entry double to a selected suite; dates and room type can move the price well beyond that span.
