In reality, this is a 60 room Victorian townhouse, reimagined by a Parisian hotelier and Italian architect Fabrizio Casiraghi with a worldly spin on English manners. The white façade behaves impeccably. Inside, things become richer: lacquered wood, rust coloured curtains, black bentwood chairs, framed curiosities, patterned carpets and bathrooms in a deep red that makes a morning bath feel faintly theatrical. The Pondicherry Bar is the heart of the hotel’s evening mood, all warm light, cocktails and quiet confidence, with decorative references that feel collected rather than themed. Breakfast is taken in the Green Room, pleasant and intimate, though this is not a hotel built around grand dining. Rooms can be compact, so choose carefully and ask for light, height and a view over the square if possible. Grand Hotel Bellevue works because it understands its role beautifully. It gives you London townhouse atmosphere, clever design and proper hotel pleasure, without asking you to pay for marble you did not need.
