About

At 1,800 meters above sea level, hidden deep within the forests of South Tyrol, Forestis Dolomites feels wonderfully detached from ordinary life. The road winds upward through dense pine woods before revealing a former Austrian sanatorium from 1912, once built for aristocrats seeking pure mountain air and sunlight therapy. More than a century later, the philosophy remains remarkably intact. Forestis still revolves around silence, light, altitude and the restorative power of the Dolomites themselves. The architecture is exceptional precisely because it knows when to step back. The three contemporary towers seem almost weightless against the mountains, their pale wood interiors and immense windows designed entirely around the landscape. Every suite faces the jagged peaks of the Geisler mountains, and the effect is hypnotic. Sunrise floods the rooms with sharp alpine light while evening transforms the rock faces into shades of pink and amber. Even making coffee in the morning becomes a scenic event. Then there is The Villa, perhaps the most seductive part of the entire estate. Available exclusively for up to ten guests, it feels less like a hotel accommodation and more like a private mountain residence imagined by an architect obsessed with calm. The atmosphere is deeply intimate without becoming cold. Fireplaces glow quietly against dark timber, terraces dissolve into forest, and the surrounding silence feels almost physical. It is the kind of place where entire afternoons disappear between wine, conversation and staring at the mountains through floor to ceiling glass. The culinary side avoids predictable luxury clichés. At Restaurant YERA, the tasting menu explores the alpine landscape with impressive precision. Forest herbs, local trout, venison and ingredients gathered from nearby woods arrive beautifully composed without unnecessary theatrics. The Forest Cuisine philosophy ties everything back to the surrounding mountains, often using pine, spruce, berries and herbs in surprisingly elegant ways. You leave dinner understanding the landscape differently than when you arrived. What makes Forestis remarkable is its restraint. No loud spectacle, no forced glamour, no alpine folklore performance for Instagram. Just extraordinary architecture, profound calm and one of the most beautiful mountain settings in Europe.
