Farasha Farmhouse
Farasha, Marrakech, Morocco
About
Most people stay in Marrakech for the city. The souks, the palaces, the endless energy. Farasha Farmhouse makes a compelling case for spending part of your trip somewhere entirely different. About thirty minutes from the medina, the property sits among more than 450 olive trees with wide views towards the Atlas Mountains. The transition is surprisingly abrupt. One moment you are surrounded by traffic, scooters and ochre walls, the next you are driving through farmland where donkey carts are still part of daily life. Farasha began as a private residence and retains much of that feeling. Guests gather around shaded terraces, linger by the pool and drift through the gardens rather than disappearing into a large resort. The pace is slow. Breakfast has a habit of stretching well into the morning. The farmhouse itself is attractive without trying too hard. Whitewashed walls, natural materials and understated interiors place the focus firmly on the landscape outside. In winter, snow often caps the distant Atlas peaks while the olive groves remain green. It is one of those combinations that feels distinctly Moroccan. The owners, Rosena and Fred Charmoy, are well known figures in Marrakech's creative scene, and the property reflects their taste for relaxed hospitality over theatrical luxury. That approach extends to the food, which draws heavily on local produce and is best enjoyed outdoors whenever the weather allows. Farasha will not suit everyone. Guests planning to spend every day exploring Marrakech may find the commute inconvenient. Yet that distance is precisely what gives the place its appeal. After navigating the intensity of Jemaa el Fnaa or the narrow lanes of the medina, returning to a farmhouse surrounded by olive trees feels wonderfully restorative.
