There is no grand arrival sequence, no lobby designed for social media, no soundtrack following you from breakfast to the pool. Instead, there are stone walls, olive trees, gravel paths and a silence so complete that the sound of sheep bells carries across the valley. That silence is no accident. The estate has existed in one form or another since the Middle Ages and remained a working agricultural property for centuries. Vineyards, orchards, olive groves and beehives still occupy much of the land today. Guests arrived later. The transformation was led by Mallorcan architect Toni Esteva, whose guiding principles were remarkably simple: nature and silence. Looking around, you suspect he took both instructions rather literally. Thick stone walls emerge from the earth in almost the same colour as the surrounding hills. Courtyards sit beneath ancient olive trees. Some contemporary interventions are so restrained that it becomes difficult to tell where the historic estate ends and the new architecture begins. The property stretches across hundreds of hectares beside the Parc Natural de Llevant, one of Mallorca’s least developed corners. Rooms, casitas and private houses are scattered throughout the estate, some far enough from the main building that encountering another guest can feel almost accidental. Fortunately, that is part of the appeal. There is an excellent spa, yoga, meditation and even Watsu treatments, a form of massage performed in warm water. Yet Es Racó never feels like a wellness resort chasing the latest trend. The experience is quieter than that. The large indoor pool faces the countryside through floor to ceiling windows, turning the landscape into the focal point. Even relaxation here seems designed around observation rather than activity. The restaurant follows the same philosophy. Much of the produce comes from the estate’s own gardens, orchards and vineyards, supplemented by nearby farmers. The cooking is thoughtful, seasonal and deeply rooted in Mallorca without feeling eager to prove the point.
