Clove
14 Rue Chappe, 75018 Paris, France
About
Clove sits on Rue Chappe in Montmartre, a few steps from the Sacré Coeur climb, and it feels like a tiny reset button for the neighbourhood. The place was opened in 2022 by Ella Fatima McElroy and Florent Marcault, and you can sense their hands in everything, from the pacing behind the bar to the quiet confidence of the menu. Design here is sharp and calm: black machines on white counters, an exposed brick wall, and small ceramic pieces tucked into imperfections like a wink to anyone who looks closely. Those cups are the point. McElroy makes the ceramics herself, shaping specific forms for espresso and filter coffee, which turns your order into something oddly tactile and memorable. The beans rotate through serious European roasters such as Dak, The Picky Chemist, and Swerl, and if you drift toward tea, they keep a selection from Artéfact. Pair it with a pastry sourced nearby, then take a window seat early before Montmartre remembers it has an audience.
