Casa de Pilatos
Pl. de Pilatos, 1, Casco Antiguo, 41003 Sevilla, Spain — Sevilla — Spain
About
Casa de Pilatos is one of those Seville addresses that quietly outclasses places with far louder reputations. Built between the late 15th and 16th centuries, it became the model for the Andalusian palace by bringing together Mudéjar craft, Gothic detail and the new language of the Italian Renaissance in one remarkably coherent whole. In the historic centre, away from the grand theatre of the cathedral precinct, it offers something rarer: a sense of aristocratic Seville that still feels intimate. The courtyards, marble columns, coffered ceilings and azulejos have real presence, yet the house never slips into museum stiffness. Its name comes from a 1519 pilgrimage to Jerusalem by Fadrique Enríquez de Rivera, linking the palace to one of the city’s best known Holy Week traditions.
