Caro Hotel

About
Behind the elegant façade of the former Palace of the Marqués de Caro lies a building that has accumulated centuries rather than replaced them. During the restoration, archaeologists uncovered Roman remains, sections of a 12th century Islamic city wall and traces of later Gothic and Baroque interventions. Most cities would spread these discoveries across several museums. Here they are gathered beneath one roof. That layered history gives Caro a character that feels impossible to replicate elsewhere. Ancient stonework appears beside minimalist contemporary interiors. Moorish influences, timber ceilings and noble architectural details emerge unexpectedly as you move through the building. The designers showed admirable restraint, allowing the historic fabric to command attention without turning the hotel into a museum piece. The atmosphere is calm and quietly sophisticated. Mornings begin in the heart of Valencia’s old town, just a short walk from the cathedral, while evenings often end on one of the hotel’s terraces with a glass in hand and the city settling into its familiar rhythm. What lingers most, however, is the feeling that Caro belongs exactly where it stands. Many beautiful hotels could be transported to another city and lose little of their appeal. Caro would lose its entire reason for being. Few places capture Valencia’s Roman, Islamic and Christian heritage so effortlessly. Fewer still allow you to spend the night among it.
