A tasting menu with a playful streak, a few steps from Kitsilano Beach

A few blocks from the sand at Kitsilano Beach, AnnaLena makes a strong case for spending the whole evening at the table. Chef-owner Michael Robbins and partner Jeff Parr opened here in 2015; since 2020, dinner has meant one evolving tasting menu rather than a choice of individual dishes. Local and seasonal ingredients set the direction, while the kitchen is happy to take a detour through flavours from further afield. The cooking can be intricate, but the room keeps its shoulders down.

That balance has earned AnnaLena two Michelin stars in the 2026 guide, the first restaurant in Vancouver to reach that mark. It suits a birthday or a carefully planned dinner for two, but you need not dress for a hushed, white-tablecloth ritual. Book a dining-room table or a seat at the bar, settle in for two to three hours, and let the courses unfold. The menu changes, so the pleasure lies in seeing what Robbins and his team have made of the season rather than arriving with one famous dish in mind.
