About

Perched on a butte above the Snake River Valley, Amangani makes no attempt to compete with its surroundings. Opened in 1998 and designed by Ed Tuttle, it reflects an early Aman philosophy built on restraint: long horizontal lines in local sandstone, wide glass panels, and a structure that follows the ridge rather than dominating it. The arrival is calm rather than theatrical. A double height lobby with a monumental fireplace opens toward the Tetons, while outside, a 35 metre heated infinity pool extends the horizon with almost mathematical precision. Rooms are generous and deliberately pared back, with wood burning fireplaces and deep soaking tubs placed to capture the view. Those expecting the visual drama of Amangiri or the layered richness of Aman Venice may find Amangani surprisingly subdued. The architecture does not aim to impress on first glance and some interiors show their age. Yet that restraint is also its logic. The building frames rather than performs, and over time the clarity of its design becomes evident. Cuisine draws on the American West with bison, elk and seasonal produce, handled with quiet confidence. Service remains discreet. This is a place that rewards those willing to slow down and engage with the landscape, rather than those seeking immediate spectacle.
